Andy Stanley is a pastor and author and is someone who has been hugely influential to my growth as a follower of Jesus. He has also helped me grow as a leader. The primary way in which he has helped me grow is through his teaching. His teachings are a big reason why I serve on staff at a church today and hope to serve The Church for the rest of my life. You can learn many of these principles and more from the Andy Stanley Leadership podcast.
I’ve listened to his teaching and read his books for over a decade and one of the things he is great at is packing insightful truth into memorable statements. - Systems create behaviors.
- Do for one what you wish you could do for all.
- Have a ministry, don’t hire a ministry.
- It’s much easier to make a point than to make a difference.
- Leadership is a stewardship, it is temporary, and you’re accountable.
- Have more conversations and less policies.
- Is this a tension to be managed or a problem to be solved?
- Where are we manufacturing energy?
- Healthy and productive staff cultures are characterized by mutual submission.
- What’s rewarded is repeated.
- Fairness ended in the Garden of Eden.
- Loyalty publicly results in leverage privately.
- Complex organizations are dumb.
- Sacrifice the one for the many.
- The less you do, the more you accomplish.
- Only do what only you can do.
- The goal of leadership is not to eradicate uncertainty, but rather to navigate it.
- Misalignment happens naturally.
- A single act of courage is often the tipping point for extraordinary change.
- Leadership is not about making decisions on your own. It’s about owning decisions once they are made.
